A Multicultural Podcast for Our Common Good
The Abuelas en Acción (Grandmothers in Action) podcast hosts are Latinx mothers and grandmothers who envision and work for a more compassionate and equitable world. As Climate Comadres we know that a thriving planet, like a thriving democracy, depends on addressing racial, social, sexual, gender, and environmental inequities. Abuelas en Acción provides a gathering place to share stories–past, present, and future– that are deep and profound. The stories reflect nuestra facultad, our intuition, voices of our souls, that remind us to trust that the generational strength of our familias and culturas can lead to solutions.
Las Comadres have open, not always easy dialogues with guests across generations who are leaders in their communities and have a passion for justice. Guests share how their own journeys, often starting with a vision, have led to practical action for thriving communities through art, community engagement, political advocacy and other agents of change in their neighborhoods and across the planet. Las Comadres listen, laugh, cry with guests, and ask the tough questions, but mostly applaud their guests’ tenacity, resilience and optimism. The audience always leaves feeling hope and are inspired with practical action steps that ordinary people can take to shape a truly equitable and democratic America and planet for our common good.
The Abuelas en Acción podcast is part of Familias en Acción in Portland, Oregon. Hosts are Marie Dahlstrom, Dr. Rosemary Celaya-Alston and Consuelo Saragoza. Sam Williams is our founder & producer.

Itzia Mejia Barragan is a 4th year student at Washington State University studying earth science with an endorsement in science teaching. She currently facilitates the programs Mariposas Poderosas and Mariposas Creative Care at WSU.
Sam is Native (Salish/Kootenai), a part of the LGBTQ+ community, first-gen, an artist, technologist, instructional designer, and multimedia enthusiast. Pronouns: he, him, his.

Join Abuelas en Acción at our virtual round table where we join together to honor the memories and legacies of our Abuelas, living and those who have passed. Abuelas en Acción is a multicultural and multigenerational podcast where we lift our voices for our common good; where we speak about Peace and Justice. In our new series, Nuestra Sabiduría: “Unwrapping Our Stories for Soul Filled Living,” we have multigenerational discussions about thriving through times of transition, challenges and difficulties. Nuestra Sabiduría is a healing and gratitude centered resilience series for the uncertainties and hardships in life including climate change, racism, intergenerational trauma and injustice.
