Familias en Acción (Familias) is committed to advancing health equity to strengthen the health and wellness of Latino/x/e communities in Oregon. Our CHW Workforce Development program is focused on building capacity for Latina/x/e Community Health Workers (CHWs) who are very effective in improving the health and wellness of our communities.
Familias provides a culturally specific, comprehensive workforce development program for Latina/x/e CHWs that includes:
- 90-hour CHW training and support to secure state certification;
- Continuing education opportunities;
- Career coaching and job placement support; and
- Technical assistance to other CBOs seeking to implement certification programs in rural areas.
Somos Salud Training
In Fall 2022, Familias’ 90-hour, Spanish-language CHW Training Program, Somos Salud, was approved by OHA’s Office of Equity and Inclusion. We now offer quarterly cohorts for the 90-hour training that are in-person and in Spanish only. Participants complete:
- The foundational curriculum
- Oral health hours
- HIPAA training

We aim to provide continuing education to help CHWs maintain certification, assistance with application/renewal processes, and outreach to assist CHWs outside our program.
