THQ has announced that it has signed an agreement with Conan Properties International to produce games featuring Conan the Barbarian for a wide range of platforms.

Although best known with regard to the 1982 film starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Conan the Barbarian was originally created by Robert E. Howard in the 1930s. Since then more than 12 million books featuring the character have been sold worldwide.

Now he is set to star in a series of games for PC, handhelds, mobile phones and consoles - both current and next-generation.

"Combining the epic adventures and stunning environments found throughout the Conan Universe with next-gen video game technology will add a whole new chapter to Conans rich history, said Germaine Gioia, vice president of licensing, THQ.

The agreement delivers a strong addition to our world class video game portfolio and will provide Conans huge fan base and gamers worldwide with hours of thrilling entertainment.

Paradox Entertainment's Fredrik Malmberg added: "THQs proven success with high-profile licensed properties will ensure Conan games deliver an interactive experience worthy of a truly legendary character."
