Kazakhstan has gained strategic importance, especially since the beginning of Russia’s war in Ukraine. It’s becoming a stronger partner for the EU in Central Asia and market opportunities for both regions are emerging.
In 2022, trade volume between the two totalled €40.2 billion, of which €29.8 billion accounts for Kazakh exports.
The EU expects the strengthening of its trade with Kazakhstan, from energy to agrifood, to have a spillover effect on other Central Asian countries.
In the meantime, the United States has reaffirmed its support to Kazakhstan for advancing human rights and democratic reforms, arguing that these are integral to a “vibrant new Kazakhstan”.
