Several teams began play earlier in the California Classic Summer League (July 6-10 in San Francisco and Sacramento) and the Salt Lake City Summer League (July 8-10).
During summer league, teams play squads composed of their newly drafted prospects and second-year players, including top incoming rookies such as Zaccharie Risacher, Alex Sarr and Reed Sheppard.
Another notable name who saw action is Los Angeles Lakers rookie Bronny James, who made his debut during the California Classic games. Teams also featured G League players, two-way players and veterans vying for a roster spot.
In Las Vegas, each team played four games from July 12 to 19. The top four teams then advanced to the playoffs. The LA Clippers faced the Grizzlies and the Golden State Warriors played the Heat in the two semifinal games on July 21. The other 26 teams played a consolation game on either July 20 or July 21.
