Youth Leaders
Youth Leaders Program
Enlace trains Latinx and immigrant youth witnesses and/or survivors of domestic violence to become peer educators. All participants are volunteers (ages 13-17), and many are former Enlace clients.
Our Youth Leaders program allows participants to build their leadership and networking skills while promoting healthy, gender-affirming relationships amongst their peers. Doing so reduces the likelihood of youth engaging in domestic violence-affiliated behaviors (e.g., gang involvement or teen dating violence).
Youth Leaders train over four sessions (Saturdays, from 9 am to 1 pm); participation is a one-year commitment, which involves active participation and leadership development.
Training topics include:
- Teen Dating Violence 101
- Consent
- Healthy Relating and Healthy Breakups
- Bystander intervention
- Presentations to adult groups on the impact of violence on children
Like Enlace’s Promotoras, our Youth Leaders serve as community educators who provide outreach and bilingual (Spanish/English) presentations at youth conferences, public schools, and other venues.
