Empire Skate Club of New York

The Empire Skate Club of New York is a non-profit organization of inline skaters dedicated to having fun and bringing the New York City inline skating community closer together.

Big Apple Roll

The Empire Skate Club's premier event each year is the Big Apple Roll (BAR), held in early August. BAR is a multi-day extravaganza of group skates, social events, clinics, and adventures exploring and experiencing New York City on inline skates.

BAR 2024 will officially commence with an Empire group skate on Thursday, Aug. 1, and continue through Sunday, Aug. 4. But come early and join the Tuesday Night Skate on July 30 or Wednesday Night Skate on July 31.

Group Skates

Tuesday Night Skate

Empire's regular weeknight group skate is the Tuesday Night Skate. TNS skates year-round, weather permitting. The group meets up at Manhattan's Grand Army Plaza by the statue of General Sherman at 8:00 pm., Fifth Ave & 60th St. (map). This is also the southeast corner entrance to Central Park.

TNS is proud to be NYC's longest running group skate, dating back to c. 1989. Skate with us and join the tradition!

In addition to Empire's TNS, there are other group skates roaming NYC. Learn more about them.

Weekend Skates

One of the best ways to explore the boroughs of New York City and its suburbs is a weekend group skate with the Empire Skate Club. We organize a group skate most weekends (and sometimes twice a weekend) during the warm-weather months. Pace and distance vary according to the group leader. Most weekend skates start from near Central Park.

Speedskating

Join Empire Speed on the Central Park and Prospect Park loops from April through (maybe) October. There are typically two or three sessions per week during the season on the loops at Central Park and at Prospect Park. Check the Empire Speed Facebook page for latest announcements of training meet-ups.
