Police Scotland drone operators have begun a feasibility exercise at South Queensferry seafront to investigate complaints about anti-social behaviour in the town.

Officers were spotted testing equipment in order to obtain footage of reckless drivers which could be used to prosecute offenders.

The problem has again been mounting quickly in recent months, after a crackdown following lockdown when the Hawes Inn car park was closed for a 10pm nightly curfew. Residents said this had been effective but it is understood that the temporary measure has now lapsed.

Drivers have been heard locally racing up and down the visitors' carpark opposite the Hawes Inn and tourist cafes, with wheel spins and horns blaring well after midnight.

After a recent lull following prosecutions and cautions, the problem has returned following the improved weather and holiday season.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "Officers from our air support unit work with colleagues across the country to provide support to a wide range of policing operations which benefit local communities."

Last month, community police officers staged a crackdown on antisocial driving in the town, which has been steadily increasing since the lockdowns of 2021.

Officers said they had brought twenty two warnings and charges against drivers including speeding and exhaust silencer offences.

In an unusual move, officers said they were considering plans to offer tickets to Knockhill Racing Circuit for drivers not involved in anti-social behaviour.

Police Scotland Inspector Alan Healy said: “We are aware of issues in relation to anti-social behaviour in South Queensferry and it will not be tolerated. Officers regularly carry out patrols and anyone with concerns should speak to them or call 101.”

Local SNP Councillor Norman Work said: "I welcome the police using any means to help in catching any anti social behaviour."
