A man has been arrested and charged following the death of a 53-year-old within an Edinburgh property.

Police swooped on Gorgie's Westfield Road at around 12.55pm on Friday afternoon, June 7, following a report of concern for a man within a property on the street.

A 53-year-old man was subsequently pronounced dead at the scene. Police arrested a 43-year-old in connection with an alleged assault and the man has now been charged.

CID and forensics were spotted at the scene on Friday afternoon and a heavy police presence continued into Saturday before the street reopened during the evening.

One resident reported seeing three police vans and all the communal bins being taken into trucks and replaced.

The 43-year-old suspect is expected to appear at the city's sheriff court on Monday, June 10. Detective Inspector David McAlinden said: “At this time, our thoughts are very much with the family and friends of the deceased.

“This was a contained incident, however we know that the police presence and subsequent road closure has had a significant impact on the local community and the wider public.
