An Edinburgh firefighter has been convinced of sending explicit pictures of his former partner to other people without consent.

Dale Ward, who is based at the city's McDonald Road station, appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on June 6 and pled guilty to abusive behaviour and sexual harm after 'circulating inappropriate images' of a woman online.

The 28-year-old was convicted after sharing intimate images of his victim online without her permission and sending them to others in what was listed as a domestically aggravated charge by the court.

Ward was released on bail and will return to the dock for sentencing on July 18 while background reports are gathered. Ward was told that by circulating several images of his former partner in an intimate situation, he "intended to cause her fear, alarm and distress."

The firefighter, of Bonnyrigg in Midlothian, admitted carrying out the act between January 1 2020 and October 31, 2023.

Bravely speaking out for the first time following Ward's guilty plea, the victim told Edinburgh Live: "He circulated nude images without my permission for a number of years. He sent them to other men. Men then contacted me for images.

"It had a profound impact on my mental health and reputation. I'm a very private person and that has just been taken away from me."

She added: "In the fire service, he works with female paramedics and other female firefighters and I'm concerned about their safety."

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service declined to comment but Edinburgh Live understands the matter is subject to the SFRS's internal disciplinary policies and procedures and its investigations will continue.

Sentencing was deferred for reports until July 18.
