William “Bill” Burnham OBITUARY

William “Bill” Burnham passed away peacefully June 22, 2024, two days after his 80th birthday. Born in Berkeley, CA, Bill started his working life making donuts before and after school. He attended Castlemont High School, in Oakland, where he met the absolute love of his life, Frankie, who passed away in 2006 after 38 years of marriage. Upon completing his military service, he returned to the Bay Area and the newlywed couple stretched themselves to buy their house in Dublin, which remained their forever home.He was a local self-employed contractor that made sure things were done “right”. That work ethic and honest way of doing business made him a household name in the tri-valley.Both Bill and Frankie were passionate about volunteering and giving back to the community. Bill was involved in many organizations throughout his 56 years as a Dublin resident. Bill could be seen all over the valley, pitching in at every event possible. His work with the Dublin Chamber Ambassador Committee helped keep him active in retirement, and his way to still give back to the community. As a way to spend more time with his son in the early years, he became involved in a number of youth sports organizations. He was a coach, an umpire, grounds keeper, and could frequently be seen behind the snack bar counter at the Dublin Sports Grounds. As a Dublin Planning Commissioner, he wanted to be “in on the ground floor” of the eastern Dublin expansion initiative, which has continued to reshape the city for the last 30 years. One of his biggest passions was working year round with the Dublin Lions Club on the city’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade. He was one of the original organizers and served as chairman for 36 years. As the “good time” parade grew over the years, so did the smile on Bill’s face. Awarded Citizen of the Year in 1985 by the Chamber of Commerce, Bill humbly excepted the award in his signature paid shirt, jeans and work boots amongst the suit and tie crowd. He will be missed by all that knew him; he is survived by his son Dean and daughter-in law Jessica, his nieces Kandy and Patti, and grand niece Tia.Visitation will be held on July 12th at Graham-Hitch Mortuary, 4167 First Street in Pleasanton from 4pm-7pm. Services will be held on July 13th also at Graham-Hitch Mortuary at 11am. Reception following.
