Stephen L. Alberti OBITUARY

After a brief but courageous battle with cancer, Stephen Louis “Steve” Alberti passed away on June 22, 2024. Born in Oakland, CA to Louie and Anna Alberti, he was the oldest child of three. Steve attended Grass Valley Elementary, King Junior High, and graduated from Bishop O’Dowd High School in 1972. He then went on to Chico State, where he was a proud member of the Lambda Pi fraternity and Pioneer Days sheriff. After college, Steve worked for Oakland Scavenger Company (now Waste Management) before embarking on a successful career as a salesman. Steve married Charlene Owen in 1983, and together they had their daughter, Stephanie, in 1988. Steve had a deep love for music, a gifted guitarist, and was a lifelong fan of The Beatles and John Lennon. Steve was an avid fan of the Oakland Raiders, the Oakland A’s, and the Golden State Warriors. He was also an active member of the fellowship communities in Montclair and Rockridge, and an amazing caretaker for both of his parents in their final years. Known for his humility, graciousness, and fun-loving spirit, Steve found joy in life’s simple pleasureswhether it was enjoying a morning walk or cup of coffee, engaging in meaningful conversations, or spending precious moments with his beloved grandson, Lucas. He was the loving father to Stephanie Alberti, brother to Anne Alberti and Lisa Alberti Johnston, brother-in-law to Greg Johnston, affectionately known as ‘Uncle Steve’ or ‘Cousin Steve’ to many, and a dear friend. His pride and joy was becoming Nonno to his grandson, Lucas Louie Connell. Steve’s warmth, quick wit, and vibrant spirit touched the lives of many. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Friends and family are invited to a Memorial Mass at Church of the Assumption, 1100 Fulton Avenue, San Leandro, on Wednesday, July 17, at 11:00 a.m. A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Steve’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 (online at stjude.org/donate) or the Cancer Research Institute, 29 Broadway, Floor 4, New York, NY 10006 (online at cancerresearch.org/donate).
