Robert Francis Daly OBITUARY

Robert (Bob) Daly made his transition on June 16th, 2024 at the age of 97. He is preceded in death by his wife, Mary (May) Forde Daly, and his sons, James and Thomas Daly. He is survived by his loving daughter, Aileen Daly Schori (Steve) of Moraga and grandchildren, Sarah, Ryan, and Kevin Daly Schori.Born in Oakland, CA, Bob was proud to be a native of the Bay Area and a second generation Californian. He attended Horace Mann and St. Lawrence O’Toole Elementary Schools in Oakland and he graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Berkeley. He was a member of St. Jarlath’s Catholic Church in Oakland and after moving to Rossmoor, attended Mass at St. Anne’s. Growing up in Oakland, Bob enjoyed all that the city had to offer. He also appreciated the outdoors having spent summers on a family ranch in Bakersfield. He took many trips to Washington to be with his cousins, aunts and uncles. During WWII he joined the Navy and was assigned to the USS Sea Pine.Bob was a member of the Young Men’s Institute, a Catholic fraternal organization, where he formed lasting friendships. Bob followed in his father’s footsteps into a career in the plumbing business. His knack for business and his ability to connect with people led him to manage a multimillion dollar business for Familian Pipe and Supply for 25 years. An expert jitterbug/swing dancer, an avid skier and in his later years, a kayaker, he believed we should keep moving. Bob’s love of travel was realized when he retired and spent time touring the world. He especially enjoyed spending a month each year in the peace and beauty of Maui. He loved to barbeque, make popcorn and watch Wheel of Fortune, sing in the shower, entertain, dance, and show family and friends the beauty of the Bay Area and the finer places to dine out. He made the best martinis. His favorite saying was “Keep Smiling!” and his own smile and generosity will be remembered by all who knew him.Rosary will be held at Hull’s Walnut Creek Chapel, 1139 Saranap Ave, Thursday, June 27th at 7pm. Funeral Mass will be at St. Anne’s, Rossmoor on June 28th at 11am. Burial at Holy Sepulchre in Hayward on Tuesday, July 2nd at 11:30am. Donations may be made in Bob’s name to Mercy Retirement and Care Center in Oakland or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
