Marie Virginia Dillon(nee) Canane OBITUARY

Marie Virginia Dillon(nee) Canane, 95, died June 13, 2024. A native of Belmont, Massachusetts she was the daughter of Francis J. Dillon and Mary M. Callahan (nee) Dillon. Marie attended elementary and high school in Belmont. She graduated from Regis College with a liberal arts degree. She taught fourth grade before marrying John in 1953. John and Marie lived in Arlington MA until 1965. John’s work relocated them to New Jersey and then in 1968 to Walnut Creek, California.John and Marie had three daughters. Marie was the girl scout leader, cookie mom, and volunteer whenever needed. She was an avid walker and exercise participant. Marie enjoyed learning languages. She was a gallery guild member at the Bedford Gallery (1977 to 2008) in Walnut Creek, she loved volunteering there. She loved knitting and quilting and loved engaging in those groups. She also played bridge, did crossword puzzles, and loved to travel with John.Her family was most important to her. She orchestrated wonderful dinners, holidays, vacations and activities.There will be a memorial service at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church, 1101 Keaveny Ct., Walnut Creek, on Friday July 12th at 10:30am.Survivors include her children, Maureen (Jeff) Buhr, Sheila (Dale) Morseman and Paula Martori; grandchildren Erin (Chris) Watt and Patrick Morseman; great grandchildren, Luke, Jack and Fiona Watt; and other extended family members.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Athens Symphony, or to the Presbyterian Village of Athens Employee Assistance fund, in Marie’s memory, or to a charity of your choice.Lord and Stephens Funeral Home, WEST,Watkinsville, GA. is in charge of the arrangements. www.lordandstephens.com
