RICHMOND  — BART officials are working on restoring normal service after a wayside fire caused major train delays on the Richmond Line in the Berryessa, Richmond and Millbrae directions Sunday, BART officials said.

The Richmond station was temporarily closed due to the fire, first reported at 3:20 Sunday, but reopened about an hour later. During the closure, orange line trains were being turned back at the El Cerrito del Norte stop, and red line trains, inbound from San Francisco International Airport and other stops in San Francisco and Oakland, were turned back in Berkeley.

Trains had already been moving at reduced speeds due to the heatwave, officials announced earlier Sunday. Riders of the Antioch line between Pittsburg/Bay Point and Antioch stations were told to expect delays.

Earlier police activity also caused a 20-minute delay in the Dublin/Pleasanton and Daly City directions, the agency said on social media around 1 p.m. Sunday.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
