UPDATED:

Several people trapped on a cliff above ocean bluffs along the Daly City coastline were rescued Saturday by fire crews, authorities said.

The hikers became stuck sometime before 1 p.m. near Westline Drive on a walking path near Mussel Rock Park that overlooks the Pacific Ocean.

Rescue crews from the North County Fire Authority advised the public to avoid the area while working to free the trapped individuals.

In an update later in the afternoon, the fire authority announced that “all trapped individuals (had) been brought to safety.”

The agency reminded the public in a social media post to “stay on the main trails when walking around the cliffs.”

Dangerous situations around the cliffs near the Mussel Rock Park area are not uncommon.

In recent years, several have died or become seriously injured falling between 150 and 200 feet from the bluffs to the beach below.

Others have been rescued after finding themselves in extremely unsafe situations involving the cliffs, including a 2013 incident where a 79-year-old man nearly died on the bluffs while paragliding — an activity for which Mussel Rock Beach is notoriously unsafe, with frequent crashes reported.
