It’s going to be hot — really hot — during the Fourth of July week in the Bay Area.
We’re talking triple digits — and then some — in some inland locations.And, alas, nobody has invited us to a pool party this week.
Thankfully, there are other plenty of other fun ways to cool off in the Bay Area.

Get some ice cream
Yeah, ice cream certainly ranks as one of our favorite ways to beat the heat. That’s especially true when we’re getting the dish from one of the many great ice cream shops in the Bay Area. Here are 10 of our favorites, ranging from classics like Preston’s and Loard’s to trendier spots.
Want salt with that?
Granted, margaritas aren’t nearly as good as ice cream. But they do have their fans, who love to venture out to fun spots to get their tequila on. Here are 10 popular spots around the Bay Area — from San Jose and Los Gatos to Berkeley and Walnut Creek — where you can do just that.
Go see a movie
What’s playing? Who cares? The important thing is that you get to spend 2 hours in some really, really good air conditioning. Our top recommendation for watching flicks, however, would be Alamo Drafthouse New Mission in San Francisco, which has some truly incredible programming — plus a full menu of food and drink offerings. Grab a bit at the beach
Feel like a little road trip? If so, here are some really cool eateries within a (somewhat) easy drive from the Bay Area. So, jump in the car, turn on the tunes (making sure to leave early — since the roads will be busy) and head out to such fun beach cities as Bodega Bay and Morro Bay. Hang out with Mrs. Doubtfire
The temps are going to be cooler in San Francisco than in much of the rest of the Bay Area, so maybe head to the City by the Bay to see a play — which also means air-conditioning and getting out of the sun. Plus, the “Mrs. Doubtfire” musical is set to kick off this week at the Orpheum and that should be really fun.
