K-12 Summer Program

East African culturally centered Out-of-School-Time (OST) Summer Programming

Our Summer Program operates for six hours a day (11:00 am-5:00 pm), four days a week (Monday – Thursday) for six-weeks in July and August.  Summer instruction helps students build academic skills, retain the knowledge they gained during the school year, and cultivate creativity and critical thinking. Math content will provide 6-8th grade students in our Summer Learning Program with a targeted algebra readiness program during the summertime. We deploy various memory games that employ diverse learning styles and lead to retention. These games use techniques developed in “Cultivating the Genius of Black Children-Strategies to Close the Achievement Gap” (Redloaf, 2015).

  • We offer structured activities, through Age Up and Skate Like a Girl.
  • We also work with an arts instructor who leads activities focused on East African themes.During breaks and in the summer.
  • EACS partners with local institutions for field trips or to bring enrichment into the classroom. Previous trips include Woodland Park Zoo, UW Planetarium, MOHAI, Franklin Falls, and Pacific Science Center.
  • Our 6-12th graders visited F5 Networks and Tide Works to learn about jobs in tech and at the Port of Seattle.
