Vallecito area hit hard by multiple fires

At least three fires on Sunday night involved lightning strikes, one fire that left marina damaged

The Upper Pine River Fire Protection District was deluged with multiple fires in the Vallecito area Sunday night.

Between 6 and 10 p.m. that night, fire crews tended to a whopping 10 incidents, according to the department’s Facebook page.

Those incidents included lightning that struck a shed on County Road 510 and sparked a brush fire – ultimately destroying the shed – at 6:40 p.m.; as well as two separate lightning strikes hitting trees in Blue Spruce RV Park north of Vallecito Reservoir and on Forest Lakes Drive just south of Vallecito (at 6:55 p.m. and 7:41 p.m., respectively).

There was also a fire on Middle Mountain just northeast of Vallecito (8:05 p.m.), along with a structure fire at the Vallecito Marina office (8:14 p.m.).

According to a subsequent Facebook post, the marina fire destroyed multiple life jackets.

“If you have a jacket your not using or want to donated please bring it by the Marina. Just trying to help get a small business contractor back up and able to rent boats for the 4th. This includes kids sizes they may have grown out of,” the department said in the Facebook post.
