2026 Audi Q2 e-tron electric car confirmed: Most affordable premium EV coming

Audi has confirmed plans for more electric SUVs, with the Q2 e-tron expected to arrive in showrooms before 2027 to complete the line-up.

Audi has promised it will have an electric SUV in every major market segment, signalling its intent for a Q2 e-tron to launch following the incoming Q6 e-tron.

Announced during the international drive of the Q6 e-tron, which will cover the brand’s bases for a mid-size SUV, the Q2 e-tron will slot in as a city SUV alongside the Q4 e-tron small SUV and Q8 e-tron large SUV.

This would make Audi the only western brand fielding four electric SUVs in varying segments, so far.

Also of note, there was already an all-electric version of the Q2 available in China in long-wheelbase form known as the Q2 L e-tron, but wasn’t updated in line with the model’s global facelift that lobbed in 2021.

Due to launch before 2027, Drive understands the Q2 e-tron will come before the new Scalable Systems Platform (SSP) is ready, meaning it will likely be built on existing architecture.

Audi confirmed it will be different from the Q4 e-tron, which is built on the MEB platform that also underpins the Volkswagen ID.3 and ID.4, as well as the Q6 e-tron’s Premium Platform Electric (PPE) shared with the Porsche Macan, and the Q8 e-tron’s MLB Evo architecture.

It is understood that the upcoming VW ID.2 electric hatchback’s MEB Entry could be a contender as the right size and shape for the Q2 e-tron city SUV.

Though a production version of the ID.2 is yet to be revealed, the concept ID.2all features a 166kW powertrain and a circa-450km driving range – though these figures are yet to be locked in for the production car.

The Audi Q2 e-tron could follow a similar track and would be a significant power bump over the existing car that is offered in two forms – the 110kW/250Nm 35 TFSI and 140kW/320Nm 40 TFSI quattro S line.

A flagship SQ2 is also on offer that ups the ante to 221kW/400Nm.

But exactly when is the new Q2 e-tron expected to surface?

Audi has stated its full array of electric SUVs will be on offer before 2027, but after the roll out of the Q6 e-tron in the first half of 2025, it is expected the all-electric A6 e-tron to be revealed soon will be the next model lined up.

This means the new Q2 e-tron might not be revealed until next year with a possible market debut in 2026.

The Q2 e-tron would not have any direct rivals from luxury brands, but could compete with the Lexus UX300e, which is currently priced at $88,190 before on-road costs and outputs 150kW/300Nm from a single electric motor.
