Former Delaware Hayes, Ohio State baseball player Jacob Bosiokovic called up to St. Louis Cardinals
Colin GayA Delaware, Ohio, native and a former Ohio State baseball player has made his first MLB roster.
Jacob Bosiokovic, a 30-year-old right-handed relief pitcher, was called up to the St. Louis Cardinals after six seasons in the minor leagues Sunday. He did not make his MLB debut in the Cardinals' 2-0 win against the Cincinnati Reds.
Bosiokovic, who played at Delaware Hayes High School, is a converted first and third baseman who hit 16 home runs, drove in 94 RBI and his .268 in 164 games with the Buckeyes from 2013-16.
Bosiokovic was drafted by the Colorado Rockies in the 19th round of the 2016 MLB draft.
Bosiokovic was converted into a relief pitcher in 2019 before he was acquired by the Cardinals in the Triple-A portion of the 2019 Rule 5 draft. In 2024, he pitched 30 innings for the Memphis Redbirds wit a 3.00 ERA and 38 strikeouts.
At Hayes, Bosiokovic was the Ohio DIvision I Player of the Year in 2011 and 2012, and was first-team all-conference in each of his four years of high school.
The Cardinals will begin a three-game road series against the Pittsburgh Pirates Tuesday at 6:40 p.m.
Bosiokovic is now one of three Ohio State baseball players in the MLB along with Seattle Mariners outfielder Dominic Canzone and Colorado Rockies pitcher Ryan Feltner.
