2 Newport Independence Day Celebration

A celebration of our country's independence, featuring:

11:00 AM: Recreation of the first Rhode Island reading of the Declaration of Independence from the steps of the Colony House. Washington Square
11:30 AM: Twenty-one Gun Salute to the Nation by the Artillery Company of Newport using their cannons cast by Paul Revere.

Continuing a years long tradition, The Colony House will be open from 9:00 am for visitors to explore the first floor.

4 Umbrella Sky Project

Umbrella Sky Newport, produced by ArtScape, will unveil its captivating display of over 500 colorful umbrellas magically suspended in the sky. This breathtaking installation promises to create a magical haven for the community and visitors alike, casting sun-kissed shadows through a canopy of floating umbrellas onto the pathway of the tree lined street flanked by eclectic shops.

Game, set, match! Hot off Wimbledon, the top ATP World Tour pros have arrived in Newport to compete in the Infosys Hall of Fame Open July 14 - 21, 2024. Contested on the historic grass tennis courts of the International Tennis Hall of Fame, which have hosted all the legends of the sport since 1880, the tournament is the only event played on grass courts outside of Europe, and it offers the only opportunity to see professional men's tennis in the Northeast prior to the US Open.

6 Newport Folk Festival

The Newport Folk Festival, founded by George Wein in 1959, takes place on the grounds at Fort Adams State Park and features four stages of world class musicians, food, vendors and a number of exhibits. Fort Adams is located at 90 Fort Adams Drive, Newport, RI. One of the park system’s national treasures, Fort Adams is situated at the mouth of Newport Harbor with panoramic views of the Newport Bridge and the East Passage. The festival runs rain or shine.

8 Newport Gulls Home Game

Positioned in the heart of downtown Newport, historic Cardines Field is home to the classic wooden-bat, summer collegiate baseball team the Newport Gulls. Picture it: ballpark treats, special appearances from mascot Gully, and a classic game of America's pastime at one of the oldest baseball stadiums in the country. Classic.

9 FREE “HOP-ON HOP-OFF” TROLLEY

The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority launched a free “Hop-On Hop-Off” bus service promotion in Newport. The service offers transportation around Newport to tourist destinations and beaches. This includes all service on Route 67 (Bellevue/Salve Regina Univ.) and Route 68 (Middletown/Newport Beach Shuttle). The service will be free through Oct. 31, 2024.

Route 67 (Bellevue/Salve Regina Univ.) Passengers can ride Route 67 to popular attractions such as the Newport Mansions, Cliff Walk, Audrain Automobile Museum, International Tennis Hall of Fame and more.

Route 68 – The new route will connect neighborhoods in the north end of Newport to local beaches.
