UPDATED:

A beloved Denver burger institution announced this week that it plans to open a fourth restaurant in Broomfield in the summer of 2025.

The Cherry Cricket expanded to Littleton last year, its first location outside of Denver. The new, 8,500-square-foot Broomfield burger joint will take over the former Old Chicago space at 1280 E. 1st. Ave., adding several of its signature Cricket-esque elements, like its marquee sign, guest-favorite fish tank, and expansive outdoor “burger garden” with seating for 300 guests.

Burger lovers can eat their way through many of the Cricket’s outrageous Denver Burger Battle winners, like the People’s Choice contender last year: The Cricket Royale with Swiss, duxelles, caramelized onions, roasted garlic and onion jam, garlic aioli and crispy onion strings on a pretzel bun.

“…Speaking with residents and those who grew up here, we heard fond memories of gathering with friends and neighbors at the former Old Chicago. We are excited to revive this beloved community spot and bring it back to life,” said Alex Bunn, the chief marketing officer for The Cherry Cricket’s parent company, Breckenridge-Wynkoop.

The restaurant first opened in Cherry Creek in 1945 and moved to its current location at 2641 E. 2nd Ave. about five years later. It has had multiple owners over the years, including Sen. John Hickenlooper and his restaurant business partners; it was purchased by the company that is now Breckenridge-Wynkoop in 2000. It added a second location across from Coors Field, at 2220 Blake St., in 2018. (You can also find its burgers at Empower Field at Mile High.)
