Ryan Ashland was arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder and second-degree assault.

A 56-year-old man bludgeoned to death with a bat outside a Denver strip club was the victim of a homicide, the Denver coroner’s office has ruled.

Janis Wendell was killed on the afternoon of Sunday, April 28, said Steven Castro, spokesman for the Denver Office of the Medical Examiner. The cause of his death was blunt force injuries, according to an autopsy.

The attack happened at P.T.’s Show Club in Denver, police have said.

Police arrested Ryan Ashland, 41, who has since been charged with two counts of murder and several counts of attempted murder in the bat assaults of another man and a woman.

Prior to his arrest, Ashland was “making excited utterances,” according to a probable cause statement.
