After a six-year absence, popular pizza delivery chain Papa John’s will re-enter the Rochester market no later than July 22, Jamie McVannan, a Papa John’s owner and the company’s upstate regional manager, said Tuesday.

“We’re training employees now, and we have a couple inspections we have to finish up this week,” he said.

The new location is at 2852 West Henrietta Road in a plaza near the corner of Brighton-Henrietta Townline Road.

Offering takeout and delivery only, the shop is in a 1,300-square-foot space formerly occupied by Cricket Wireless.

Hours will be 10 a.m. to midnight daily to start, McVannan said.

Founded in 1984 in Indiana, Papa John’s has more than 5,000 locations worldwide.

It had a presence in the Rochester area until April 2018, when several locations abruptly closed, citing economic headwinds.

McVannan reiterated he is confident the Brighton location will succeed.

“We’ve got about 100 years of experience in the team that’s opening that store,” he said.
