A napkin wave signaled the start of dinner at Rochester's first Le Diner en Blanc in 2022 at Innovation Square.

Le Diner en Blanc will return to Rochester for a third time Thursday, Aug. 22.

As is custom, the posh picnic’s location will remain a secret until the last minute, but it will be a public space.

The event, pronounced “dinner on blahnk,” originated in Paris and has been held in more 70 cities worldwide. It was staged here for the first time in 2022.

“This chic and elegant affair celebrates the Rochester community and our beautiful public spaces,” said event coordinator Noy Cohen.

The idea is to bring together hundreds of people for drinks, dining and conversation in a unique setting.

Tickets are $55 each and must be purchased in pairs (or as corporate tables) at rochester.dinerenblanc.com/city.

The dress code is head-to-toe white.

Guests need to bring almost everything:

∎ A table, two white chairs and a white tablecloth.

∎ Gourmet meals, stemware and white dinnerware in a white picnic basket. (People also can order meals in advance on Le Diner en Blanc’s website.)

∎ Non-alcoholic drinks.

∎ Bags to take away leftovers and litter.

Per New York state alcohol laws, guests can’t bring their own booze. However, they can order wine and Champagne in advance on the website

To ensure the location is kept under wraps until the event starts, ticketholders will meet at a designated departure spot and be escorted to the site by a volunteer.

The 2022 dinner was held at the base of Innovation Square. Last year’s spanned the Broad Street Bridge.
