Suddenly on July 1, 2024, 89 years old. Born and raised in Harrington, Delaware, Grover cherished his downstate roots and never forgot where he came from.
Though suffering the loss of both parents at a young age, Grover went on to graduate law school, served in the Army Reserves, practiced law in Kent County and served as a deputy attorney general, before being appointed a Family Court judge and then Vice Chancellor and Chancellor of the Court of Chancery. He was beloved by members of the Bar as well as his colleagues on the bench for his accessibility, kindness, humility, keen insight and intellect. His opinions were eagerly awaited both for their legal substance as well as his concise, masterful writing style and down-to-earth humor.
After leaving the bench Grover went into private practice at Morris James and ultimately Gordon, Fournaris & Mammarella, where he remained special counsel until his death. Throughout a long, impressive career, Grover always maintained his inherent humility, treating all he came in contact with, no matter one’s status, as an equal, accepting of each person in his empathetic, nonjudgmental way.
Grover is survived by his wife, two daughters, his son, as well as two nephews, his niece, their spouses, his sister-in-law and great-nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his oldest daughter and brother.
Viewing and burial will be private, with a memorial service to follow at a later date. To send a message of condolence to the family, please visit www.mccreryandharra.com.
