Josh Green says goodbye to Mavericks, thanks Dallas fans amid Charlotte departure

Green landed with the Hornets through the historic six-team sign-and-trade that saw Dallas acquire Klay Thompson from the Warriors.

Now that his next career move is official, Josh Green said goodbye to the Dallas Mavericks through a social media post Sunday night.

Green took to Instagram to thank members of the Mavericks organization for their role in his development over the last four seasons. Green will continue his NBA career with in Charlotte, landing with the Hornets through the historic six-team sign-and-trade that saw Dallas acquire Klay Thompson from the Warriors.

“The last 4 seasons have been some of the most enjoyable years of my life. There have been ups and downs but I couldn’t have asked for a better home as a young kid coming into the NBA,” Green wrote on Instagram. “Thank you to Coach [Jason] Kidd and Nico [Harrison] for taking a chance on me, and giving me an opportunity to grow not just as a player but also as a person. Thank you to my teammates for friendships that will last a lifetime. I couldn’t have asked for a better group of guys to go to battle with. Most of all, thank you to the Dallas fans and community for welcoming me and giving me a home away from home. I’ll always have love for you guys.”

Green played a pivotal role in Dallas’ recent NBA Finals run. After starting 33 games in the regular season, Green contributed off the bench in the postseason. He closed out the 2023-24 campaign averaging 8.2 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.3 assists.

Charlotte also received guard Reggie Jackson, a 2029 second-round pick and a 2030 second-round pick in the sign-and-trade deal.

The Mavericks selected Green with the 18th overall pick in the 2020 NBA draft from Arizona. Dallas was hoping the Australian guard would develop into a reliable 3-and-D weapon as his career progressed.

Green joined ex-Mavericks teammate Tim Hardaway Jr. in delivering a farewell message to North Texas over the weekend. Hardaway will head to Detroit following his trade to the Pistons.
