Historic issues of ‘Allen American’ newspaper to be digitized

The University of North Texas will digitize historic issues of the semi-weekly newspaper, which was founded in 1970.

Historic issues of the Allen American newspaper will be digitized by the University of North Texas, according to the Allen Public Library.

The paper was established in 1970. Just two years after its founding, it won state press awards for best local news writing, community service and other categories.

The project is funded by a TexTreasures Grant, the Institute of Museum and Library Services and the Texas State Library and Archives Commission, according to the library. The University of North Texas Portal is in charge of digitizing the papers.

The historical issues of the paper were donated by Star Local Media, the company that owns the Allen American.
