UTPB announces death of former Frisco Lone Star football player Luke Miller

The incoming freshman signed with UT-Permian Basin in February.

The UT-Permian Basin athletic department announced the death of incoming freshman defensive end Luke Miller Monday.

Miller was an All-District 6-5A first team defense selection this past season for Frisco Lone Star before signing with UTPB in February.

“We are deeply saddened by the loss of Luke Miller. We extend our condolences and prayers during this difficult time to his family, friends, and all of the people that Luke was able to touch in his life. Our football family will honor Luke in everything we do moving forward,” said head coach Kris McCullough in the statement released by UTPB.

“Words are hard to find today. I love you Luke. I send my deepest condolences to your family, friends, and everyone you were able to touch in your life. Please pray for his family and our student athletes,” he added in a post on X/Twitter.

An official cause of death was not disclosed in the statement.

Miller’s parents created a Facebook group called “Luke Strong” to share updates about Miller following a medical emergency. On July 3, Miller’s father, Clinton, posted that Miller had been hospitalized after suffering a stroke.
