Angela Scanlon, who danced her socks off on Strictly Come Dancing last year, has spilt the beans on the show's gruelling spotlight moments, branding them "Hell on Earth" and "absolute torture".

The 40 year old partnered with Carlos Gu, but faced the music and got eliminated after a dance-off with Layton Williams.

Discussing her experience on the Glad We Had This Chat podcast, hosted by Caroline Hirons, Angela reflected upon on the nerve-wracking experience of waiting to see if she was safe from the dreaded axe. Angela dished: "Under the lights? Hell on Earth. I don't know how they're still allowed to do it. Honestly, it's absolute torture."

Angela Scanlon said she doesnt know how they're still allowed to do it.

Giving insight into the leaderboard suspense, she confessed: "And the thing about it is, we were never, or we were very rarely, like up there on the leaderboard - twice maybe," reports the Mirror.

Sinking deeper into the Strictly scoring shenanigans, she added: "I don't fully understand how the marking works but you know, if you're right up there, it's very unlikely that the public voted, no matter how bad it is, is enough to get you out."

Sparkling on the ballroom floor but still sweating bullets, she remarked: "If you're skirting around the middle, it's danger zone. The level of competition was insane so it was never comfortable."

Not one to mince words, Angela admitted she dove into the dance-off but felt utterly chewed up and spat out after competing against Layton and his partner Nikita Kuzmin, despite securing 34 points for their American Smooth to Perry Como's 'Magic Moments'.

Judges Craig Revel Horwood and Motsi Mabuse were wowed, dubbing Layton and Nikita's performance the "better dance of the night", with particular praise given for "musicality and balance". Caroline admitted she was absolutely fuming as she tuned into the show at the time, expressing that she was "raging" and "livid" over Angela's shock exit.

Angela couldn't hide she was "genuinely gutted", admitting the journey had its rough patches, yet they kicked off rather impressively. She unveiled a side of herself even she hadn't realised was there before, saying she's turned out to be quite the "real show-off", feeling "quite comfortable" in radiant confidence.

But there were moments that shook her to the core, like when she was instructed to just "walk over there on your own", which gave her the chilling flashback of being abandoned by a parent in the bustle of life.
