Ah, the pothole. The common enemy of Brits.

However, this particular dent in the road has caused a bit of a village spat. Potholes are infuriating and seem to multiply overnight in some cases, so that means you have to keep an extra eye out while driving.

But, this one driver seems to think the responsibility of avoiding the specific hazard is not up to them. They believe it's up to their neighbours to spotlight potholes if outside their house - with traffic cones.

After spotting an orange cone outside their house, one resident decided to inspect the sudden sighting of the traffic equipment. They then realised it was placed on top of a "big pothole" and even came with a hand written note.

"Nice bit of village drama," the original poster teased on the Casual UK subreddit. "Guess all houses should own a traffic cone.

"Had a big pothole outside our house for weeks now. Reported to council three times. Someone in the village has put a cone in it and left a message. They screwed it up to jam it in the top of the cone."

Potholes are causing drama once again...

The hand-scribbled note read: "Note to residence living by the pothole. It would have been helpful to other people in the village, and considerate, to place something over this pothole, rather than having someone else having to do it.

"We’ve just smashed our front wheel to pieces."

Despite the plea from the miffed neighbour with the "smashed" wheel, it looks like they didn't garner much sympathy from Reddit users. One slammed: "Firstly the pothole seems tiny and secondly it's right next to the curb. How fast were they going that close to the pavement?"

Another mocked: "Dear Bad Driver Neighbour. Learn to drive, the skill of driving includes being able to spot and avoid hazards.

"Please do everyone a favour and surrender your licence, if you can’t spot a pothole, how can you avoid a child who may wander into the road. Best Regards, Mr / Mrs Traffic Cone."

While a third jibed: "Oh look, a driver blaming everyone but themselves again." Someone else wrote: "I mean, it would have been nice of you to do that, helps the community etc, but you have no responsibility to do it. Just ignore it."

Although, one related: "I feel their pain, I've had 2 burst tyres in 3 days due to potholes!"
