One of the most common questions is what is it made of

But some youngsters remain unconvinced.

One said: “Someone told me it’s eggy and vinegary – sounds rank.”

Thiago Rapp, of Heinz, said: “When we heard that there was confusion over our beloved salad cream, we had to step in and let everyone know exactly what it is, and just how versatile it is.” The condiment was the first sauce Heinz developed exclusively for the UK, launching it in 1914.

US diners are also befuddled by it. Dozens of queries on Reddit ponder over what to pair it with.

One person replied: “It’s used like mayonnaise. As a blob to go with salads or on a sarnie.”
