A Glastonbury Festival goer plans to pay a cheeky tribute to BBC newsreader Maryam Moshiri when he travels to Somerset later this week

Maryam unintentionally became a viral sensation after being caught flipping her middle finger whilst on-air last December - unaware that she was being broadcasted nationwide. The humorous episode saw her quickly withdraw her hand and seamlessly continue with her bulletin, which naturally caused a social media stir.

Now, Rich Wolfenden, who is part of the Beeb's Final Score team, is planning to pay homage to his colleague's blunder at the festival, which sees gates open tomorrow (June 26). "Important Glastonbury prep is underway," he tweeted on X (formerly Twitter), paired with an image featuring a giant flag showcasing Maryam's infamous gaffe.

In response to the tweet, a shocked Maryam questioned: "This isn't real, surely?" However, Rich humorously reassured: "We'll have you front and centre for Coldplay, Maryam. Don't you worry."

Numerous users of X chimed in, sharing their enthusiasm for the humorous gag. An impressed user penned: "Excellent work! We'll be on the lookout for this one." Another quipped: "This is brilliant -I've laughed so much I had to rewind 45 seconds of The Rest is Politics - superb banter."

Others are predicting the stunt will boost ratings, with one stating: "Ratings will surely go through the roof with people looking for this." Whilst someone else declared: "Genius! ! Will be looking out for this in the Glasto crowd #iconic."

One miserable Glastonbury-goer moaned however, sniping: "Large flags spoil the view for most of the audience and BBC coverage. It's the main reason we tend to avoid the headliners when we are there. Surely the acts are more important than getting your flag on the telly."

This prompted Rich to joke: "Its not to try and get on telly mate. Its a point of reference for our group meeting up."

Following her blunder last year, red-faced Maryam explained on X: "Hey everyone, yesterday just before the top of the hour I was joking around a bit with the team in the gallery. I was pretending to count down as the director was counting me down from 10-0.. including the fingers to show the number. So from 10 fingers held up to one. When we got to 1 I turned finger around as a joke and did not realise that this would be caught on camera.

"It was a private joke with the team and I'm so sorry it went out on air! It was not my intention for this to happen and I'm sorry if I offended or upset anyone. I wasn't ' flipping the bird' at viewers or even a person really. It was a silly joke that was meant for a small number of my mates."
