A man has appeared in court charged with murder following the tragic death of a 22-year-old in Troon.

Callum Pollock died after being found seriously injured at a block of flats in the Ayrshire town on Saturday evening.

Emergency services raced to a property on Ramsay Court, however Callum was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

James Thomason, 34, has been charged with murder at Ayr Sheriff Court on Monday, in connection with the death. Tomason, from East Ayrshire, made no plea.

He was remanded in custody, while the case was submitted for further examination. Thomson will reappear in court within the next eight days.

Heartfelt tributes poured in for Callum after the devastating news of his death broke. Heartbroken loved ones paid their respects to the young Rangers fan, who was popular within the community.

Jemma Cope recalled of Callum: "He was a young boy with his whole future ahead. Such a shame but I promise to make sure I do my best and get Callum Pollock justice. Fly high buddy."

Arun Cooper wrote: "Forever 22, Callum Pollock rest easy wee man. I will never forget you wee man."

Carol McKenna said: "Forever 22 Callum—I'm so sorry wee man."

Lauren McCann added: "Heartbreaking. I'm so sorry and thinking of all the family."

Caroline McKenna said: "Aw man, wouldn't wish this on anyone. Poor wee guy. He was a popular boy."

Police descended on the residential area since Callum's death with the block of flats locked down as cops launched a murder probe.

Police were spotted on the residential street on Sunday night, with a block of flats taped off. A number of uniformed officers were kept stationed at the entrance to the block of flats, where the incident took place.

Forensic officers were later seen entering the building and scouring the area outside. Pictures from the scene show a large item wrapped in blue plastic and police tape lying on the street near a police van.

Detective Inspector Andrea Templeton said: “Around 11.40pm on Saturday, 6 July, 2024, officers were called to a report of a man seriously injured within a property in Ramsay Court, Scott Crescent, Troon.

She added: “A 34-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the death. He is due to appear at Ayr Sheriff Court on Monday, 8 July 2024.

"A report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal."
