Dead Boy Detectives was developed by Steve Yockey, who has written episodes of Supernatural and The Flight Attendant , and based on the DC Comics characters created by Neil Gaiman and Matt Wagner.
Jayden Revri ( Charles Rowland ) and George Rexstrew ( Edwin Payne ) star as the titular characters who choose not to enter the afterlife and instead stay on Earth to investigate crimes that involve the supernatural.
Charles and Edwin first popped up in the Doom Patrol show, played by different actors, and their own outing is similar in tone to Doom Patrol but targeted towards a slightly younger audience.

We begin in London when they come to the aid of Crystal (Kassius Nelson), a talented young psychic medium.
The location moves to Port Townsend, Washington, where a series of events lead the trio to settle in to solve cases in the quirky little town, with the help of the wonderfully sweet Niko (Yuyu Kitamura).
Rowland and Payne treat their heroes with the complexity their deep bond and tragic pasts deserve.
The series showcases LGBTQIA+ representation and a wide range of teenage, parenting and other difficult issues.
The group face off against “sprites”, giant snakes, sea monsters, demons, human killers and all manner of strange creatures.
Notable examples are Esther , a witch who has her sights set on Charles and Edwin, and Night Nurse , a member of the Lost and Found Department of the afterlife.
The residents of Port Townsend are all quite unorthodox. Jenny , owner of the Tongue and Tail butcher shop, has a great character arc, Tragic Mick from the gift shop has a devastating back story when you finally get to hear it and the Cat King steals the limelight in every scene.
The leading duo and their new initiates form a close bond by the end of the series, with their shared experiences bringing each member growth and change.
Currently, Dead Boy Detectives hasn’t been renewed for a second season but I really hope it is as the characters and plot strands are excellent.
