Miller, 35, admitted a course of abusive behaviour towards his partner at houses in Moorside Street, Carluke, and Kirkhill Road, Wishaw, between March 1 and June 30 last year.

His attacks included throwing a glass that caused a cut to her head. On more than one occasion he grabbed her by the throat and choked her. Miller also broke her tooth with a punch.

The court heard that he often accused her of sleeping with other men and called her nasty names. She was terrified of him but refused at first to report the violence, even telling her aunt that the wound to her head had been caused during a "carry on"

Miller would apologise for his behaviour and they'd get back together, but the violence always flared again.

He also admitted separate charges that involved threatening or abusive behaviour in Laighstonehall Road, Hamilton, and Motherwell police station on September 11.

Miller has been in custody since his arrest in September and sentence was deferred until later this month to assess him for a supervised release order.

Sheriff Liam Murphy told him: "This was a course of conduct over a significant period. Your previous convictions are of concern and show a propensity to commit domestically-aggravated offences.

"Custody is the only option but I'll obtain reports including a supervised release order assessment."
