Lewis Capaldi beams with surprise as he is welcomed to New Zealand with a traditional rendition of his song Someone You Loved

Lewis Capaldi recently wrapped up his tour of Australia and New Zealand.

And when the Scottish crooner arrived in Auckland International Airport last Monday, he was treated to a special rendition of his hit song Someone You Loved.

The 23-year-old and his entourage were escorted by man dressed in a traditional costume.

He took them to a cleared section of the airport where a choir, also dressed in a traditional ensemble, stood ready to perform.

The group, called Hātea Kapa Haka, welcomed him in song with a traditional Powhiri - which a formal welcome.

Just seconds into the song, Lewis recognised they were performing his global hit in their native language.

He proudly smiled back at his pal who also realised they were singing his song, putting their own spin with layered harmonies.

Lewis listened to the group intently and even sang part of the song with them toward the end.

The Brit Award-nominated artist even shared the moment on Instagram, writing: 'Thank you so much for the Powhiri welcome from Hātea Kapa Haka... was a class way to be welcomed to New Zealand.'

Lewis finished a short tour Down Under, performing in Sydney, Melbourne and Auckland, as well as performances at the Falls Festival.

He recently received four nominations for the upcoming Brit Awards including Male Solo Artist and Album of the Year.

Someone You Loved spent seven weeks at number one in the UK, as well as topping the charts internationally - beating Lizzo's Truth Hurt in back October.
