'I just wanted to go to the party with all the big people!' Kate Ritchie reveals the Home and Away cast threw her a Logies party when she was 10 because she was too young to attend
With the Logies coming up next month, Kate Ritchie is reflecting on her first ever experience with the Australian awards show.
The 40-year-old veteran actress revealed she was too young to attend the awards show when Home and Away was nominated for Most Popular Series in 1989.
Speaking to TV WEEK magazine on Thursday, Kate - who played Sally Fletcher on the long-running soap for 20 years - admitted she was devastated about having to miss the awards show.
All dressed up with nowhere to go: With the Logies coming up next month, Kate Ritchie is reflecting on her first ever experience with the Australian awards show
'I always felt so left out in those early years,' she told the magazine.
'I just wanted to go to the party with all the big people and put on a pretty frock and drink faux champagne or something.'
But she admitted the cast and crew couldn't have been nicer about it, and even went out of their way to organise a Logies-themed lunch in her honour.
Missing out: The 40-year-old veteran actress revealed she was too young to attend the awards show when Home and Away was nominated for Most Popular Series in 1989
She said they gifted her with flowers, a teddy bear, and even got her a mock Oscar inscribed with: 'Kate Ritchie, the best actress in Summer Bay'.
Kate revealed she still has the award, which takes pride of place alongside the two Gold Logies she later went on to win.
But in an interview with The Project in October, Kate confessed it was often hard growing up in front of the cameras.
'I just wanted to go to the party with all the big people and put on a pretty frock and drink faux champagne or something,' she told TV WEEK of missing the Logies
Having worked on the TV show throughout her adolescence, she said strangers would often approach her and make comments about her changing body.
'I have to admit, it was pretty awful at times, but I think after 30 years, I'm so used to people commenting on my body,' she told The Project.
Somewhat incredibly, Kate said people will still discuss her sudden growth spurt with her, even today.

'I kind of grew overnight,' she admitted.
'I'll go get my sausages at the butcher or I'll go to the hairdresser, and people will tell me they remember the day when Sally Fletcher grew breasts.'
While Kate said she doesn't feel self-conscious about it anymore, she does 'think it's affected me in some ways'.
'I'll go get my sausages at the butcher or I'll go to the hairdresser, and people will tell me they remember the day when Sally Fletcher grew breasts,' she confessed
