Better late than never! The Today show's Lara Vella admits she is still on her P-plates - as Georgie Gardner fears her driving segment 'might not end well'

She had a heated clash with Queensland senator Fraser Anning last week over his controversial appearance at a far-right rally.

And Lara Vella, 32, stole the spotlight once again on Tuesday when she admitted she is still on her P-plates while driving a golf buggy during a Today show segment.

The presenter joked that she perhaps shouldn't be behind the wheel as she maneuvered the cart uncertainly towards the camera.

'P-plates' refer to the plastic sticker drivers place on their car to indicate that they only have a provisional driver's licence.

Lara made the admission while presenting a segment on Disney Pixar's new mini-golf attraction in Melbourne.

Seated in the driver's seat of the golf buggy, she declared: 'Now, I'm on my P-plates so I don't actually know whether I can drive one of these but...

'I don't know, I think my skills on the buggy might be a bit better than my golf [skills] because my golf is very, very average.'

The camera then cut back to Today co-anchors Georgie Gardner and Deborah Knight, who burst out laughing in the studio.

Deborah joked: 'Make sure there's no crowds around you when you're driving that thing... change the shot right now before anything bad happens!'

Georgie added, laughing: 'Yeah, you just be very careful.'

Still chuckling away, she told viewers: 'She actually is on her P's by the way. That might not end well. Stay tuned!'

It comes after Lara had a heated clash with Senator Fraser Anning as he tried to defend his appearance at a far-right rally against African gangs in Melbourne.

The rally, which took place earlier this month, cost the Australian taxpayer $2,800 and has been heavily criticised. Many attendees of the rally were seen giving Nazi salutes.

Fraser said the protest – run by the United Patriots Front – was 'no racist rally' and described the other attendees as 'decent Australian people who demonstrated their dislike for what the Australian government has done'.

Lara, however, hit back, asking how people giving the Nazi salute could be called 'decent Australians'. 'I can absolutely guarantee no one in the group that I was with was doing anything like that, Fraser retorted.

Lara then noted that Fraser stood shoulder-to-shoulder with UPF founder Blair Cottrell, who has previously described Jewish people as 'parasites'.

The Senator brushed off the claim, saying it was the first time he had met Blair, before adding that 'who was there at that meeting was irrelevant'.

'Are you seriously saying the people who were at this event are irrelevant?' Lara asked. 'Are you seriously saying that it doesn't matter who attended that far-right rally?'
