Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom comes in first place at US box office with $150m as worldwide tally is over $700m

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom topped estimates to devour a giant $150 million at the box office in North America this weekend.

While it fell short of its predecessors’ record-shattering $208.8 million launch, the dinosaur sequel is off to a mighty start, according to Variety.

The Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard-led blockbuster has already piled up $711.5 million worldwide, including $561.5 million overseas.

Big: The blockbuster has already piled up $711.5 million worldwide, including $561.5 million overseas

Fallen Kingdom led the weekend as the lone wide release, though Incredibles 2 enjoyed a heroic second weekend to land at No. 2.

The Disney-Pixar sequel picked up another $80 million, more than enough to top the box office on many weekends, bringing its domestic total to $350.3 million.

The superhero blockbuster, starring the voice talents of Craig T. Nelson, Holly Hunter, Bob Odenkirk and Samuel L. Jackson, launched with $182.7 million.

That makes it the best opening for an animated feature and the eighth-biggest debut of all time. Incredibles 2 also earned $56.8 million overseas, taking the international tally to $134.6 million.

With a global total of $485 million, Incredibles 2 has already earned more than the entire run of the original 2004 film after just two weeks on release.

Meanwhile, Ocean’s 8 has crossed a major milestone of its own. In its third weekend, the female-led spinoff hit the $100 million in North America.

The heist movie. starring Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Awkwafina, Rihanna and Helena Bonham Carter, pocketed $11.6 million at home this weekend and $26.9 million overseas for a global total of $171 million.

Rounding out the top five is Ryan Reynolds’ darkly comedic Deadpool 2 with $5.2 million. The sequel has earned $300 million domestically and $700 million globally.

The original Deadpool finished its box office run with $363 million in North America and $783 million worldwide and the sequel looks set to surpass that.
