The chiller has been largely saved by overseas audiences who have added just over $239 million to its coffers.
That gives it $295.6 million, a handy return on its $125 million budget. But the movie has been widely panned by critics, which may have kept audiences at home in the U.S.
Fifth place went to horror thriller 47 Meters Down starring Mandy Moore and Claire Holt as sisters trapped in a shark cage at the bottom of the ocean with less than an hour of oxygen. It scored $11.5 million.
