'It's bye bye': Peter Capaldi confirmed that he's recorded his Doctor's death while appearing on The Graham Norton Show
Appearing on The Graham Norton Show, he said: 'It's bye bye. Doctor Who is a great job but it is a TV factory with so many episodes and I would worry that I wouldn't do my best work with the same vigour and fun.
'I've left it while I am still enjoying it. Three years is probably enough because people get wiped out by it.'
Asked about the new series during Friday's chat show, Peter added: 'I can tell you that I have recorded the death of my character but I can't tell you anything else.'

Peter, who made his debut as the Doctor in 2013, also spoke about his decision to quit in an interview with the Radio Times earlier this week.
He told the magazine: 'I’ve never done anything for any length of time. Even The Thick of It was only 20 episodes over four years.
'I’ll have done 40 episodes of Doctor Who. I don’t think if I stayed on I’d be able to think of another way to say, "This could be the end of civilisation as we know it."
'I’ve always gone from one job to the other and seen what was around the corner and I want to get back to that.'

The Doctor's new companion, played by Pearl Mackie, is also believed to be leaving the show at the same time as Peter this Christmas.
The decision is believed to have been made by the BBC and Broadchurch writer Chris Chibnall, who will replace current showrunner Steven Moffat after this series.
A source told The Sun: 'Bosses have decided to have a completely fresh start. It's yet to be formally decided but it makes sense to give Chris his own choice of actor to play the doctor and his companion.'
She was announced as the new companion back in April 2016 and has likened her appointment in the role to being 'welcomed into a family'.
Doctor Who returns to BBC One on Saturday April 15.
