The rampaging dinosaurs also ended Pixar's run of always opening a new film at number one.
But even as the box office runner up, Inside Out made an impressive $91 million, beating industry expectations.
It's also the highest-grossing debut of any Pixar film after Toy Story 3 and the biggest opening for an original feature, whether animated or live action, a record previously held by James Cameron's Avatar which bowed with $77 million.
The coming-of-age story about a teen girl trying to cope with her family's move to San Francisco had won raves from critics who compared it to Up and Wall-E, and audiences obviously agreed.
