Oscar-winning star looks unrecognisable in his new role as a  bearded headmaster - but can YOU guess who it is?

He has in turn survived a zombie apocalypse, fronted a notorious Brummie crime family and even fathered the atom bomb, but one could be forgiven for overlooking this bearded actor as he ambled a quiet street in Bath on Wednesday. 

Surrounded by a small production team, he was shooting scenes for latest film Steve, in which takes the titular lead as a headmaster fighting to maintain his school's integrity. 

With principal photography concluding in the Somerset spa town, the actor was seen with a hood pulled over his head as he wandered the street in a filthy shirt. 

His usually recognizable face was also smeared with dirt, while a greying beard made his famously chiseled features difficult to discern. 

On an overcast day in Bath, a crew-member held an umbrella above his head as he waited for his next take - but can you guess who it is?  

That's right, it's Cillian Murphy!

The Oscar-winning star was filming his last scenes on the set of his forthcoming project, a Netflix adaptation of author Max Porter's 2023 novella Shy. 

Murphy, best known for his role as gang boss Tommy Shelby in BBC crime drama Peaky Blinders, plays a headteacher in charge of a school for boys with societal and behavioural difficulties.

The forthcoming film, renamed Steve for Netflix, is being developed by Murphy's  own production company, Big Things Films. 

Principal photography began on May 24, 2024, with its last scenes filmed in Bath on July 5. 

Murphy is also expected to reprise his role as Shelby for a Netflix film adaptation of the hit British series, the streaming service has confirmed.

Netflix confirmed the news on X with a photograph of the script, while the Oscar winning actor told Deadline: 'It seems like Tommy Shelby wasn’t finished with me…

'It is very gratifying to be recollaborating with Steven Knight and Tom Harper on the film version of Peaky Blinders. This is one for the fans.'

Co-writer Tom Harper shared: 'When I first directed Peaky Blinders over 10 years ago, we didn’t know what the series would become, but we did know that there was something in the alchemy of the cast and the writing that felt explosive.

'Peaky has always been a story about family - and so it’s incredibly exciting to be reuniting with Steve and Cillian to bring the movie to audiences across the world on Netflix.'

While Steven added: 'I’m genuinely thrilled that this movie is about to happen. It will be an explosive chapter in the Peaky Blinders story. No holds barred. Full-on Peaky Blinders at war.'

In March, Steven thrilled fans after he confirmed Cillian would star in the film during an appearance at BirminghamWorld for the premiere of his BBC show This Town.

He said: '[Cillian] is definitely returning for it. We're shooting it in September just down the road in Digbeth.'

The film is set to begin filming at Digbeth Loc Studios in Birmingham in September, and will be set during the Second World War.
