Noel Gallagher, 57, 'set to undergo surgery for a knee replacement after being hit by arthritis' - just months after his younger brother Liam had a hip operation for the same condition

Noel Gallagher is set to undergo surgery later this year for a knee replacement after being hit by arthritis.

The former Oasis star, 57, has been struggling with the joint problem, it was reported on Friday, and is planning to have the operation later this year.

His estranged brother Liam, 51, who he created hits such as Wonderwall and Don't Look Back In Anger with, also suffers from the condition.

Liam was forced to undergo a major hip operation in April - and said he was studying his old music videos during his recovery.

Speaking to The Sun about Noel's upcoming surgery, a source said: 'Noel isn't happy at all about the fact he needs this knee surgery. 

'It's a sign he's getting on and he isn't very good at being laid up — unless there is football on the telly.

'Liam had to have his hips done after struggling and now Noel is going down the same path.' 

On a lighter note, the source said that Noel expects his younger brother to get a laugh out of him needing surgery for the same condition as him. 

The source added that Noel is sure to bounce back. 

Noel will continue to gig with his band The High Flying Birds over the summer before taking a break in August to go on holiday ahead of the operation.

Speaking on his friend Matt Morgans's podcast, Noel admitted he was undergoing the surgery.

He said: 'I've got bad knees actually. I've got to have an operation on my f***ing knee.'

Liam revealed in April that he underwent the major hip operation, amid rumours of an Oasis reunion with brother Noel, 55. 

Last year Liam revealed that he needed the joints replacing in his hip due to arthritis as a result of a longstanding thyroid problem. 

Taking to social media he penned: 'Morning Rastas so I had my Hip operation last wk [week] all went well and RESPEK [respect] to all the doctors n nurses who looked after me Big shout out to the A team for getting us home safe n sound,'

'You know who you are and Florence guru I love and adore you Riverdance here I come LG x'.

One fan asked: 'I hope the operation hasn't affected your swagger!!'.

Only for Liam to quickly reply: 'I'm getting my physio to study old videos of my walk so we don't miss a trick the comeback is real.'  

The famous brothers have been embroiled in a very public feud ever since Oasis split at their final concert in Paris in 2009 after a backstage bust-up. 

And last month Liam was reportedly told to mend his rift with his estranged brother Noel so their mother Peggy could enjoy her 80th birthday with her sons. 

An insider told The Sun: 'In recent years there has been distance within the family, especially with Liam and Noel at war. 

'Peggy has told Liam to mend the rift and she is hoping there will be genuine reconciliation.

'Peggy was in a reflective mood and it would be the best birthday present if they'd finally make some steps towards patching up their feud.'
