Danny Trejo mourns the loss of his beloved chihuahua as he remembers Dixie as 'a great dog' who 'ruled the house'

Danny Trejo is fondly remembering a furry family member.

The Machete star, 80, reminisced about his late 'unbelievable' dog Dixie after recently announcing her death on Instagram, recalling a parade he once took her to in Pasadena.

'Well, I showed up with my little chihuahua, and nobody could believe it!' he told TMZ.

'They said, "Wait a minute, you're supposed to have a pitbull, a rottweiler —" I said, I got all them,' added Trejo. 'She chases every other dog. I swear to god.

'When Dixie woke up in a bad mood, because she stayed in my room, she would go outside and chase the pitbull into his doghouse. He would be crying in there. 

'So, I’d come out and she’d sit right in front. It was so funny,' he recalled with a laugh.

Trejo raved of Dixie, 'She was unbelievable. She was a great dog.'

'Dixie was funny, because Dixie … she was the smallest dog, and she actually ruled the house,' he continued.

'It was like, she would go outside and the other dogs would kinda fade away,' said Trejo. 'They wouldn't be right by the porch where we were. She just had a little space going.'

After having the dog cremated, Trejo said he's preparing to have loved ones over to 'say goodbye' to Dixie.

The Spy Kids actor noted he has around six boxes of ashes of his former pets. 'They’re all special. Dogs are so special,' said Trejo. 'They serve in our armies. They do everything for us, literally.'

He previously announced Dixie's death on Sunday, sharing a throwback photo of himself holding the dog on Instagram.

Trejo wrote, 'Hold your babies tight for me please. Today I lost my little Dixie Wixie.' 

The LA entrepreneur celebrated his milestone 80th birthday in May, telling People he feels 'blessed, first of all, because I wasn't supposed to make it out of the '60s — and I mean 1960s.

'That was a tough time for me, and nobody thought I was going to make it out of there,' he added.

Trejo also expressed his desire to work with frequent collaborator Robert Rodriguez on a third Machete film following the 2010 spin-off based on his Spy Kids character and the 2013 sequel Machete Kills, which has had fans asking for more ever since.

'I'm not kidding — I've been all over the world, they have asked me, "When are we doing Machete in Space?"' said Trejo of the potential next installment, which was teased in the previous movie's credits.
