Sylvia Jeffreys reveals the kids film that 'triggered' her: 'Flashbacks to various forms of anxiety'

Today Extra host Sylvia Jeffreys has revealed Pixar's Inside Out 2 reminded her of her own teenage angst.

The animated sequel picks up with central character Riley as she turns 13 and sees the arrival of new emotions including anxiety and envy as the teenager enters puberty.

On Tuesday, Sylvia, 38, explained how the children's movie 'triggered flashbacks' to her adolescent years in her column for 9honey.

It reminded the Nine star of 'the various forms of anxiety that marked our own transition from carefree, silly-seeking children who live in the moment to self-conscious, confused teenagers.'

Sylvia added: 'I certainly grappled with some of the classic internal trash talk that runs through young, insecure minds; "I'm not cool enough", "can they see the pimple on my forehead?", "Dear God, I'm the only one who still doesn't shave their legs.'

The reporter recalled writing about the angst in her first published piece of journalism in her local newspaper in tenth grade.

'I wrote about the angst of matching board shorts to deck shoes, and my deeply held fear of not being selected for a representative netball team,' she said.

'As the youngest of three siblings and nine cousins, my hand-me-down wardrobe did little to boost my confidence, while the braces I wore for almost two years placed me firmly in the friend zone with boys.' 

'They are necessary and superficial things that you can fully appreciate as an adult but lament as an ungrateful, self-absorbed kid,' she continued.

Jeffreys added the older we get the more refined our emotions become. 

The media personality is married to Sky News presenter Peter Stefanovic. 

The happy couple tied the knot at the Ooralba Estate in Kangaroo Valley on April 1, 2017.

In 2020, Sylvia and Peter welcomed their first son, Oscar, now three years old, in February.

Just eight months later, the TV presenter revealed that she was pregnant with her second child, a son, Henry, now two.
