Eva Longoria says Hollywood is not a 'progressive industry' and there is no 'gender equity' between men and women

Eva Longoria has said Hollywood is not a 'progressive industry' and there is no 'gender equity' between men and women.

The actress, 49, who is best known for her role as Gabby Solis on Desperate Housewives, believes the perception of the entertainment business is at odds with how it really is.

Speaking to Grazia magazine, she said: 'You know, people think Hollywood is a liberal, progressive industry, but it's not. It would be great to have gender equity in all positions, we just don't.

'We have fewer female directions and fewer Latinos in front of the camera than we did a couple of years ago. So we're actually going in the wrong direction, even though the perception is that we're doing so great.'

Eva made her directorial debut this year with the film Flamin' Hot which told the story of Richard Montanez, the man who invented Flamin' Hot Cheetos

But the star still believes there is much work to do for women in Hollywood to become more equal with men.

She said: 'Women are still not getting the same opportunities as our male counterparts. What we do [in the industry] matters, it can change culture an, when you change culture, you change policy, perception. You can change a lot of things with storytelling.'

Eva is hard at work on a press tour for her new Apple TV+ series Land Of Women, which premiered later on Thursday in New York City.

'I talk to Felicity [Huffman] all the time. I talk to Marcia [Cross] a lot, but the one probably I talk to most is Ricardo [Antonio Chavira], Javier, my husband. And Jesse [Metcalfe],' Eva told Daily Mail.

'People ask me that a lot, like, "were you guys really fighting?" and I was like "God, I forgot that was a thing,"' she shared. 'It was a thing. It was a big thing!'

Longoria also shared how she knew the rumors were a big deal when they were spoofing them on Saturday Night Live, and she said much of the time the rumors wouldn't even make it to the set.
