Dr Chris Brown is reportedly at an all time low in recent months following apparent trouble in his personal life and at work with Network Seven.

The celebrity veterinarian, 45, is said to be 'feeling a bit lost' after he jumped ship from Channel Ten and took on a hosting gig for property renovation show Dream Home and the popular Dancing With The Stars alongside Sonia Kruger.

With both shows being a far cry from his roots as the animal-loving Bondi Vet star, sources say Chris is 'not himself', reported Woman's Day on Monday.

'The issue seems to be that neither of the two primetime slots he's been matched with [at Seven] – Dream Home and DWTS – have anything to do with who he actually is, which is a loving gorgeous kind caring vet,' an insider told the publication.

'He became who he is today by being that bloke everyone loved – The Bondi Vet – and even when he morphed into the hosting role on I'm A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! alongside Julia, at least there was a link to animals.'

The source continued: 'A renovation show wearing hi-vis and hard hats is a long way from his stethoscope and helping pet guinea pigs. He just seems like he's not himself. Almost a bit flat.'

Daily Mail Australia has reached out to Chris and Seven for comment.

Chris' alleged dour mood would have been made worse by the mixed reviews Dream Home received after its debut last month, with the media personality at the helm of the series amid his $2million contract with Channel Seven.

While Chris' natural charm was on full display in the show's first episode, many viewers couldn't help but find the premise quite familiar.

Several watching at home noted that Dream Home bears more than a passing resemblance to a similar show, House Rules, which aired on Channel Seven for eight seasons from 2013.

'Dream Home is basically an upgraded version of House Rules... with a better looking host,' one person wrote on X at the time.

Another agreed, 'Dream Home = rebranded House Rules,' with someone else chiming in: 'Exactly my thoughts. Is there any difference?'

Despite the negative criticism, Seven has already renewed Dream Home for a second season

Based on a successful New Zealand format, the reality show will see six couples attempt to convert each other's houses room-by-room.

Renovator Lana Taylor, buyer's agent Simon Cohen and interior designer Rosie Morley join Chris as judges for the debut series.

Producers of the show announced the contestants will be battling out for a $100,000 cash prize.

The renovation series is Chris' return to prime time after his shock exit from I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! last year.

Chris made the shift after he signed a two-year contract with Seven worth more than $1million a year.

Just days ahead of the show's lacklustre debut, single bachelor Chris said he was already prepared to quit the show to devote more time to his love life.

The fan favourite dropped his tongue-in-cheek bombshell during an appearance on KISS FM's Kyle and Jackie O Show.

Chris made his 'confession' after listening to Pink's emotional hit A Million Dreams during the segment, joking: 'This song is also a metaphor for my relationships, that I could have a million dreams if I just took a step back from work.'

The fan favourite made his remarks after hosts Kyle Sandilands and Jackie 'O' Henderson pressured him about his single status during the segment.

'Is this you resigning from [Dream Home] before it starts?,' host Kyle Sandilands, 52, teased Chris.

'I think this is the time. Someone get Channel Seven on the phone,' Chris replied.

Only a few weeks earlier, he also confessed in an interview with Stellar magazine that he still wants to become a dad despite devoting the last 10 years to his career.

'I still feel that's very much a priority. Would I like to have done something about that in the last five years? Probably,' he said.

As if lovelorn wasn't enough, Chris has also been very open about the heavy emotional burden he carries watching his mother Anne battle Alzheimer's.

'She's still here, but the mum I know isn't any more,' he told Stellar.
